Clio Area Senior Center

A representative from Legal Services of Eastern Michigan is available to meet with seniors at the center if you have a need for legal consultation on senior related issues.  If you want to meet with a lawyer for a free consultation, please call Legal Services of Eastern Michigan at 1-800-322-4512.

Our van can transport you to and from the center, and/or local grocery shopping on our regularly scheduled days.  Recommended donation is $1.00 each way locally, or you can purchase a punch card, which is $15.00 for 25 rides.  All requests for transportation will be considered and are subject to the normal transportation schedule.  Transportation needs outside of Vienna and Thetford Township will be subject to fees and availability.  If you want to request a transportation need to a doctors appointment or to meet a everyday living need (IE laundromat, etc...), the center must have at least three business days to consider if the need can be accommodated.  These requests are subject to the normally scheduled runs.

Our van provides shopping at VG's on a weekly basis after lunch.  We also go shopping at Walmart and Meijers every month. Call the center for the grocery shopping schedule.

We are a host site for the Congregate meal Program.  The lunch menu can be found in the monthly newsletter.  Recommended donations are $2.00 for  60 years and older and $3.50 for under 60 yrs.  You NEED to call one day in advance by 12:00 p.m. to reserve a meal.  Lunch is served at noon 5 days a week.

We are a distribution site for the Commodity Surplus Food Program.  Distribution is held on the third Tuesday of each month from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.  Please try to arrange to pick up your commodities on the scheduled day!  We do not have extra room to store these boxes of food. If you feel you may qualify, please come on the third Tuesday between 10:00 and 11:30 a.m.  Please bring your proof of household income and your proof of residency, (driver's license).  The income guideline for this program for over 60 years of age is as follows and is based on household income.

• 1 person - less than $1,106.00 monthly
• 2 persons - less than $1,483.00 monthly Over 60 years of age
• 1 person - less than $1,361.00 monthly
• 2 person - less than $1,825.00 monthly

The TEFAP months are March, June, September, and December.

Dr. Jerry McClane a chiropractor with 43 years experience will be available in the Health Services Room for drop-in visitors.  There is no charge for this service.

You can have your blood pressure or weight checked at the center!  The Health room will be staffed on Mondays and Thursdays at 11:15 a.m.

The Alzheimer's Association provides a support group for caregivers at the Clio Senior Center.  It will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30 until 8:00p.m.  This is an opportunity for those in our area to find a support group designed especially for them.
Support Groups are the heart of the Alzheimer's Association.  They are attended by families, caregivers and friends of persons with Alzheimer's Disease and other related dementia disorders.  The group welcomes new persons at all times and particularly encourages attendance by those who have newly diagnosed Alzheimer's patients in their families.

The phone cards average about .03 per minute for calls outside the state of Michigan.  For calls inside of Michigan it used 3 minutes and therefore averages about .09 per minute.  Some believe this is a good rate.  We will make these cards available to you since there still seems to be quite a bit of interest.  The 900 minute cards are $26.00 and 125 minute cards are $4.00

Certified Massage Therapist, Emily Duckworth, on Tuesday afternoons beginning at 2:30 p.m. or Thursday afternoons beginning at 3:00 p.m.  She offers a ten minute therapeutic chair massage for $6.00.  Please call for an appointment.  The massage helps increase blood circulation, combat depression, improve balance and flexibility, improve posture, provides relaxation and stress relief.
